Graphites

Graphitized petroleum coke is a hard solid petroleum product of black or dark gray, with metallic luster and porosity, which is composed of fine graphite crystals to form granular, columnar or acicular carbon. 

Petroleum coke is composed of hydrocarbons, containing more than 99% carbon, as well as nitrogen, chlorine, sulfur and heavy metals. 

Graphitized petroleum coke can be used in graphite, smelting and chemical industries according to its quality. 

Low-sulfur, high-quality cooked coke, such as needle coke, is mainly used in the manufacture of ultra-high power graphite electrode and some special carbon products. Needle coke is an important material for the development of new technology of electric furnace steelmaking in steelmaking industry. 

Medium sulfur, common cooked coke, widely used in aluminum smelting. 

High sulfur, common coke, is used in chemical production, such as the manufacture of calcium carbide, silicon carbide, etc., but also as a fuel for metal casting. 

Most of the petroleum coke produced in China is low sulfur coke, which is mainly used in smelting aluminum and making graphite. 

The graphite electrode is mainly made of high quality petroleum coke and needle coke and coal tar pitch as binder by calcination, batching, kneading, pressing, roasting, graphitization and machining. 

It is a conductor which releases electric energy in the form of arc to heat and dissolve the charge in electric arc furnace. According to its quality index, it can be divided into ordinary power, high power and ultra-high power.
